FOUNDATION
The Brazilian Chamber of e-Commerce was founded on May 7th, 2001 and it is already the main multi-sector association of the Brazilian and Latin American Digital Economy, which strongly emphasizes Information Technology as a strategic factor for economic development in the knowledge era.
The Brazilian Chamber of e-Commerce is the sector’s intelligence and the main forum of digital businesses in Brazil.
MISSION
Camara-e.net’s mission is to promote, position, represent and defend the collective interests of companies, entities and associate users involved in commerce activities, relations and businesses by electronic means.
Its main goal is to encourage electronic commerce as a means of development and modernization of economic relations, focused on the increase of productivity and competitiveness in all business levels.

ASSOCIATIVENESS
The Brazilian Chamber of e-Commerce’s role grows as the government modernizes and rationalizes its activities, bringing, as a consequence, in general, the cut back in governmental structures and a significant transference of technical and economic responsibilities from the public to the private sector.
In this sense, Camara-e.net has a catalising role, engaging members and other associations in a continuous search for consensus regarding the most important regulatory and political issues of our times.

E-GOVERNMENT & DIGITAL ECONOMY
The information technologies are strategic and infra-structural tools for the modernization of governamental and public services.
Investments in electronic government, in the Federal, State and Municipal levels will be the main inducers of the development of the Information Technology industry in the next few years in Brazil.
Camara-e.net keeps a proactive monitoring and interaction with the most important governamental agencies, in order to establish private sector’s positions and interests in such matters.
ACTIONS & RESULTS
Besides acting in the formulation of regulatory policies to the sector, the Brazilian Chamber of e-Commerce has the mission to promote and foster business to its members, as follows:
- Creation, with the Foundation Getúlio Vargas, of the movement e-Brasil: Information Tecnology for the Development, in order to develop the Digital Economy in the country ;
· Leader in generating knowledge on e-business, through its Special Committees and extensive program of events, seminars and publications ;
· Representative of the private sector in monitoring and formulating important regulatory initiatives, such as ICP – Brazil (PKI), Electronic Business Bill (4.906/01), privacy and security bills, as well as a critical opposition to the new Postal Law Bill;
· Representative of the private sector in negotiations regarding e-commerce within Mercosul, Alca and WTO, as per invitation of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry and also participation in the World Summit on the Information Society;
· Partnership with both national and international associations in order to create the Chamber of Information Technology and e-Commerce of the Americas;
- Promotion of the Coalition for Software Choice;
· Efforts to promote Business Inclusion in the digital economy, focusing on small and medium sized companies;
· Organization of important commercial missions to the USA (Braziltech 2002), Corea (Corea 2003), Germany (CeBit 2003), India (Indiasoft 2003) and France, in order to promote the exportation of plataforms and services in e-Business, e-Banking and Off-Shore Call Centers;
· Formulation, with the Civil Office of the Presidency of the Republic, of a National Policy on Information Technology and e-Commerce, in order to promote self-regulation, reduce the digital divide and maximize development through the extensive use of the information technologies.
